France - Hauteford to Chauvigny

The founding of the monastery around the tomb of St Savin happened in the 9th century. That Bendictine Abbey played an important role in this area until the 11th century. It was then rebuilt with large scale mural decoration in the 1100s. After the Wars of Religion it was again reconstructed in the 1600s. It is listed as a Historical Monument and UNESCO world heritage building.
